James Falvey
James Falvey is an Attorney with a focus in commodities, derivatives, securities, FinTech/Reg Tech, and intellectual property (often associated with financial markets). Most recently, Jim was the General Counsel and Chief Regulatory Officer of EverMarkets or “EMX,” a crypto derivatives exchange. He is also Co-Founder & General Counsel for Intellectual Property Coin Group or “IPCG,” as well as Big Data Block.
Over the past 5 years, James has been very active in work on cryptocurrencies, initial coin offerings, security token offerings, and Blockchain projects/businesses. He has spoken at numerous conferences, participated as a guest on the world’s largest public radio station (out of the U.K.), written several articles and has been quoted in various media all on the “crypto-world,” including blockchain matters.
James has also done a great deal of work in financial services and market structure. Among other things, he served as the first General Counsel at the IntercontinentalExchange (“ICE”)(which currently owns the New York Stock Exchange). He has also been General Counsel at Ocean Tomo (an intellectual property “merchant bank”), EurexUS (a derivatives exchange), RJ O’Brien (a Futures Commission Merchant) and Green Key Technologies (a technology firm that focuses on building “natural language processing” products for use in the financial markets).
James has worked in a number of government positions, including as a Legislative Assistant for U.S. Rep. Fred Upton, Law Clerk for U.S. District Court Judge Richard Enslen, and appointed member of the Technology Advisory Committee for the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
James has taught courses on derivatives and FinTech at the Chicago Kent School of Law and a Commodity Market course at Penn State University. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a BA/Government; Georgetown University Law Center with a JD; and Northwestern/Kellogg School of Management with an MBA.
