Mark Sterbens
Mark A. Sterbens is an innovative, forward-thinking Gaming and Hotel professional with over 30 years senior executive level “crossover” casino and hotel industry experience. Hallmarks of his distinguished career include a reputation for delivering tight fiscal controls, “Team Leader” management style and taking a hands-on motivational approach to day-to-day operations and marketing.
Mark’s balanced experience in all aspects of gaming and hotel operations was acquired through broad exposure to all facets of casino, hotel and riverboat operations which began in 1979 when he joined the Riviera Hotel & Casino. At the Riviera he served as VP, Sales & Marketing VP, Hotel Operations, Executive VP and President – COO. During his tenure at the Riviera he was responsible for growing the Casino and Hotel to 2,000 rooms, added 125,000 sq. ft. casino, 120,000 sq. ft. convention complex and oversaw 2,000 employees.
Between 1993 to 1997. Sterbens was President – COO for Par-A-Dice Riverboat Casino and Hollywood Park Casino, where he successfully led each organization into achieving strong fiscal positions. Par-A-Dice highlights included managing the design and construction of a $26M riverboat casino, increasing gaming capacity by 30% and achieving 100% EBITDA growth. During his time at Hollywood Park he guided the Casino into achieving a remarkable 180% growth in EBITDA.
The proceeding challenging assignments paved the way for Mr. Sterbens to enter into a long-term relationship with Herbst Gaming, Inc. that spanned 1999 to 2011 starting as General Manager for Terrible’s Hotel and Casino. His role expanded to a VP Regional Manager that encompassed overseeing Riverboat Casinos in St. Joseph, LaGrange, MO and Osceola, IA, two casinos in Pahrump, NV and one in Searchlight, NV. Highlights of his career with Herbst Gaming include project managing $80M in design and construction upgrade budgets for related casinos, hotels and riverboats.
Mr. Sterbens joined the Navegante Group 2014 to 2017 as Casino General Manager of Hooter Casino in Las Vegas achieving fiscal stability for eventual sale. As Associate with R & R Global Hospitality 2017 to 2020 Sterbens collaborated on numerous casinos & resort properties.
Over his career, Mark Sterbens has been responsible for over $300M in the design and construction of casinos, hotels, and riverboats, has delivered exceptional profitability to numerous ventures and has held gaming licenses in 6 separate jurisdictions including Nevada. Mr. Sterbens has been a true asset to every gaming and hospitality venture he has been involved with in his career.
Mr. Sterbens holds a Bachelor of Science in Hotel Administration from the prestigious William F. Harrah Hotel College at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
